Bank of Scotland Foundation seeks new trustees to help build a brighter future for scotland

Bank of Scotland Foundation, an independent registered charity funded solely by Lloyds Banking Group, is inviting applications for new Trustees to join its Board and help shape the future of its charitable work across Scotland.

Since its inception in 2010, the Foundation has been supporting the Scottish charity sector through annual donations from Lloyds Banking Group. With over £43 million awarded to more than 2,700 charities, the Foundation’s funding has supported over 1.6 million people living in vulnerable circumstances, in some of Scotland’s most deprived communities. In 2025 alone, the Foundation received nearly £7 million to support its mission -  tackling critical issues such as homelessness, debt, isolation, and domestic abuse. In addition to its grant programmes, the Foundation works in partnership with Lloyds Banking Group to offer strategic development support, colleague volunteering, and mentoring opportunities to the charities it funds across Scotland.

The Foundation is now seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to join its Board of Trustees.  Trustees play a vital role in:

  • shaping the Foundation’s strategy to ensure its funding remains effective, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of communities

  • upholding strong governance

  • acting as ambassadors for the Foundation’s work and impact

Donald MacKechnie, Chair of Bank of Scotland Foundation said “We welcome applications from individuals of all backgrounds and lived experiences. Whilst previous experience as a Trustee or Board member is beneficial, it is not essential. We are committed to supporting new Trustees as they grow into their roles, ensuring they feel confident and equipped to contribute meaningfully as we work together to Build a Brighter Future for Scotland.”

Trustees are appointed for an initial three-year term, with quarterly Board meetings held in Edinburgh. In addition to their governance responsibilities, Trustees are also encouraged to participate in key engagement activities throughout the year, including charity visits and attendance at the Foundation’s Annual Reception. These events offer valuable opportunities to connect directly with the charities and communities supported by the Foundation’s funding programmes.

Applications for the Trustee roles are open until Friday 12 September 2025 and can be submitted via Aspen People at https://www.aspenpeople.co.uk/bosf/

For further details or an informal conversation about the opportunity, prospective applicants are encouraged to contact Catriona Mackie or Harry Thomson at Aspen People on 0141 212 7555.
